The past and the present
Italy almost needs no introduction. Famed throughout the world for its instantly recognisable food, its fantastic buildings and monuments, countryside filled with olive groves and vineyards and art and cultural heritage. If you have ever driven in Rome, you will recognise the temperament of the people that is almost as explosive as its great volcanoes of Vesuvius, Stromboli and Etna. Having said all this, Italy can still surprise you, here the pace of life in the countryside is slow and people enjoy life's little pleasures. Take time to visit the lakes up in the north of the country, the beautiful Adriatic coast in the south and then head north again to the capital Rome. Rome is so full of outstanding attractions that it is difficult to know where to start. The Colosseum, the Panthenon, the Trevi Fountain and the spectacle that is the Vatican City and Michaelangelo's ceiling in the Sistine Chapel are some great examples of what you have to see. Stray outside of the city to take a walk back in time to see the haunting site that is Pompeii. Our suggestion is that you park the car, book an apartment hotel for a long time and immerse yourself in the culture that is unmistakably Italy.
